Finishing touches at the first Kittanning Reservoir
This post chronicles the completion of the first Kittanning Reservoir as well as placing the finishing touches on scenery at the Curve. First, earlier the past week, Woodland Scenics Realistic Water product was poured into the Reservoir and allowed to set entirely for days. Here is a photo of the appearance of the Kittanning Reservoir after the realistic water product had dried thoroughly-
Then, it was time to move on to filling in the scenery around the reservoir, using none other than the clump foliage product. First, the left side was completed, then the middle, and finally the right until only the top part was still exposed.
To keep with the 'flattened' scenery effect at the top of the curve, Scenics coarse turf product in the color medium green, was used to fill in the exposed area. Here's a photo of all surrounding sides of the Kittanning Reservoir completely filled in with foliage-
From studying prototype photos during the PRR era, as well as other modeler's work, I knew that I had to 'etch' a horseshoe in the incline below the flag, at the top of the curve. Employing white ballast stone, I daintily laid the stone by hand in order to form the horseshoe and then I used a clean paint brush to whisk out the reservoir of extra pieces of scenery. The goal was achieved and I believe that it turned out better than planned. The next job is to finish the job at the second Kittanning Reservoir.
